Daily News article also has a lame poll: do you favor banning dogs trained to attack or do you favor training rather than banning? You could answer yes to either.

This is an explosive topic, but to briefly summarize, as of this Friday, the City will no longer allow dogs over 25 lbs or certain breeds in public housing including:

Pit bull, Rottweiler, Doberman , Chow, Boxer, Akita, German Shepherd Akita Inu, Alangu Mastiff, Alano Español, Alaskan Husky, American Staffordshire Terrier, Argentine Dogo, Bedlington Terrier, Boston Terrier, Bull and Terrier, Bull Terrier, Bully Kutta, Cane Corso, Dalmation, Dogue de Bordeaux, Dogo Sardesco, English Mastiff, Fila Brasileiro, Golden Retreiver, Gull Dong, Gull Terr, Irish Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Korea Jindo Dog, Lottatore Brindisino, Neapolitan Mastiff, Perro de Presa Canario (CanaryDog), Perro de Presa Mallorquin (Ca de Bou), Shar Pei, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Tosa Inu.

Existing dogs and their owners are "grandfathered in" if they register with the City before this Friday.

Since public housing is actually “private” the NYS legal prohibition against breed-specific legislation or rules doesn’t apply here, since it’s only for public places.
