PUPNIC 2010
FIDO's Summer Picnic for Pooches & their People

Our traditional last Friday in June proved delightful: warm 80's with no humidity. For the first time in a decade there was no threat of summer storms. We had a nice turnout that included first timers as well as veteran FIDO members.

Pupnic is famous for its food. Pot-Luck contributions were based on the name of one's dogs e.g. letters A through G , bring an appetizer, salad or bread. If the dog’s name began with an H through P, bring a small entrée. For letters Q through Z, a dessert.

In addition, we have four wonderful local restaurants who know that the way to a dog's heart is through their owner's stomach! Sheep Station Cafe & Bar, Long Tan Thai Restaurant, Queen Italian Restaurant and Laura's Italian Bistro responded in kind, representing the culinary best of four hemispheres (It seemed like four!)

Young and old pitched in; dug in we should say - a vast cornucopia of mouth-watering choices from pasta to spring rolls.

Speaking of mouth watering....

The "Huddled Masses " circled; even sat patiently and stared....

As if to say: "Corn? Corn? You think I'm some sort of animal? I'm going for that quarter roast chicken when their backs are turned!" - which he did! (Bad, Dog!)

Others specialized in The Gaze! "You are in my power! You have no will to resist... you will slowly tip your plate forward, downward..."

Some lent new meaning to "cover your back", no dropped piece would go uneaten.

There were those who went directly for the "kill"!

While others.... "High five - whatever it takes!"

Mary Jane Monahan brought her agility gear and again tutored the untrainable. Know that it is impossible to get your body through those weave poles when you've slugged down a quarter chicken stolen from the table.

Others did much better...

THE SUMMER GAMES consisted of a biscuit toss; waggest tail; most kissy licks; and stupid dog tricks. Prizes as always were donated by Sammy, at 7th Avenue Pet Foods at 15th Street.

But best of all was time spent with friends and doggies...

And puppies...

Maybe a little lap time...

Watering the pack...

Wait! Can't have too much water!
Connie Marder

Share some food...

Get a rubdown by a stranger...

Even grab a snooze...
